Chief Garry Monument

Honoring a Hero

Spokane, Washington

Chief Garry Park has 10 acres for neighborhood activities and sports. As a tribute to the well-known Chief Spokane Garry, the Spokane Tribe and the City of Spokane wanted a monument to more accurately tell the story of those whom occupied these lands years ago. Based on the tradition of story circles, Land Expressions designed and built a feature representing a campfire circle and the rising sun, to symbolize the Salish name of the Tribe ‘Children of the Sun’. The finished design is a place for play, education and gatherings of the community.
