Plaza in the heart of the city

Spokane, Washington

An urban plaza adjacent to City Hall, the Spokane Tribal Gathering Place connects people to the downtown Spokane River gorge. The space features exceptional views of the River Gorge and Monroe Street Bridge, two scenic overlooks (one being wheelchair accessible), terraced event spaces with amphitheater style seating. Adjacent Post Street improvements included adding a mid-block pedestrian crosswalk, directing street storm water runoff to new rain gardens, and renovated landscape areas.

City Hall agreed to the demolition of their parking lot to allow for the creation of this new urban plaza while development costs were gifted to the City by Avista Corporation in celebration of the utility’s 125th anniversary. Water features, natural gas flame feature, and state of the art lighting are celebratory of Spokane's industrial history of the last century.

Land Expressions worked closely with the City of Spokane and Avista in a Design | Build effort to complete this project in less than 18 months.
