Focus on the Water

City of Spokane Valley, Washington

Hands on restoration of the home was a years long project for the owners of this 1928 summer estate. The culmination would be tearing out a leaking concrete pond and replacing it with a naturalized water feature made to fit within existing huge solid granite slopes. Hired as a consultant, Land Expressions inspired and developed the design and was later contracted to install the water feature. In lieu of a bridge, floating stepping stones cross the water and lead to stairs up to a tiny patio overlooking the water fall and pond. Cantilevered over the water, a rustic gazebo welcomes quiet conversation, while a spacious patio offers plenty of room far large parties gatherings by the family.

 Project Details:

  • “Floating” stepping stones across the pond
  • Use of site sourced boulders to match existing granite
  • Hidden jets in pond for water circulation and filtration
  • Hidden “spring” for naturalized emergence of stream from existing granite
  • Cantilevered floor of gazebo
